Hi All

As you already know it is now an absolute requirement that players be registered with the NERL before they can play for us in any of their competitions. As the whole point of the club is that children play rugby league, we would appreciate it if all those players who are not already registered could be. To assist you in this we have arranged a registration evening on Tuesday, 18 5 10 at Whitley Bay Young People's Centre, times to be announced. I attach a document setting out the procedure for you.

However, it is perfectly  possible for your child to be registered without either of you actually having to attend the evening in person. What is needful to achieve this is the following

(1) complete the official registration form, copies available for me on request
(2) Parent/Guardian & player BOTH sign this form
(3) hand the completed, signed form to me, plus ONE of the following,

the player's

(a) Passport
(b) birth certificate
(c) health card
(d) school bus pass
NB Original documents only. Copies are not accepted by the NERL

AND two passport photos of the player(s) with their name(s) printed on the back in block capitals
Your child(ren) will then be registered with the NERL & their documents returned to you

Alternatively, you will be able to register your child(ren) at the Young People's Centre on 18 5 10, as above, should you prefer. If you wish to pursue this latter option could you pl tell me so the necessary arrangements can be made.

Whitley Bay Barbarians Support Local Primaries in North Tyneside

From being threatened with an awful forecast, lowering skies & distinctly soggy playing conditions the festival went on to finish in brilliant sunshine. At the end there were over 200 happy campers, who had spent their afternoon playing rugby league instead of being at school. That's "win, win" in any school child's universe

17 teams at years 3, 4, 5 & 6 entered the event, to compete for handsome cups donated by Whitley Bay Barbarians Rugby League Club, and the occasion was graced by representatives from the Rugby Football league. Andy Kelly the regions Talent Coach and current Ireland International Rugby League coach was in attendance, as were players Robin Peers, Joe Brown & Ryan Clarke, from Gateshead Thunder, the region's professional club. The latter two presented certificates to the entrants and the trophies to the winners, of the festival

The Year 3&4 event was won by Whitehouse Reds, who beat Shiremoor Greens in an exciting final. The Year 5&6 event was contested, somewhat unusually by Shiremoor A and Shiremoor B, who had both battled through their respective qualifying groups, only to end up playing their classmates in the final. Unsurprisingly, it was a win for Shiremoor. The school covered themselves in glory really, with three out of the four finalists, & the Year 3/4s were only beaten by a very good Whitehouse side

Thanks are due to Jade Mackie, the regions Youth Volunteer Coordinator for supporting the day with young leaders and match officials, to Whitehouse for hosting the event, & to all the volunteers who gave generously of their time & energy to the cause of developing rugby league in the North East.
