ANUUAL KITH & KIN TAG TOURNAMENT

And so it was, on a foggy December morning that parents & players turned up for the Barbarians annual family Xmas tag Tournament. Hats off to Debbie Pattison & Judith Mill, resplendent in pink from head toe, representing the mums

In a very lively event there was much good rugby league & not a little controversy, with not everyone ecstatically happy about some of the refereeing decisions, or the results.  Sadly for some, the classic retort, “read it in the paper” was true yet again. In terms of the final outcome, the Blue berry Warriors triumphed in three out of their four games, & drew the other to emerge undefeated, & the winners of the Whitley Bay Barbarians Kith & Kin Tournament, 2009, while some of the other contestants were left to reflect on the wisdom of repeatedly antagonising the match official.

Joint Tournament Titans, for exemplary conduct in both cases, J-J Davis & Matthew Stephenson.

Well done, one & all

WHITLEY BAY BARABRIANS XMAS DINNER

‘This the season to be jolly, & the  Barbarians certainly were at their annual Xmas dinner at Whitley Bay Young People’s Centre last Saturday. 36 people, slightly more than Chef Kevin McCoy had been asked to cook for actually turned, up & sat down to eat, but , hey! Being a chef is like being a rugby league coach,. The first item in the (unwritten) rule book is be adaptable, or else. As there were teething troubles associated with a new way of working, including bussing food in at one point, it was a small miracle that everybody  got something.

All’s well, that ends well though, & when it came, the food was delicious, & seconds were much in demand, moments after some people had swallowed their firsts in one case. Kevin was nobly supported by Brian Dean, the Manager of Whitley Bay Young People’s Centre, who gave up his Saturday lie in to volunteer, & could have been forgiven for wondering why he bothered at one point. Special thanks are due to Kevin & Brian for coping with a potentially stressful situation with calm & composure. We are also indebted to the  many volunteers who kept the show on the road. A big thank you to you all, you know who you are, from Whitley Bay Barbarians. Thanks are also due to all the members who responded to the novel situation with truly good humour.  A Very Merry Xmas & a Happy New Year to all the Barbarians everywhere

(2) Colin Glacken lays down the law to Mikey “The Hair” Fisher & Joe Glacken, both unconvinced, while Matthew McCoy stares intently into the lens. What on earth is Matthew thinking at this point?

Priory Primary Progress to  Penultimate Rugby League Play-offs

Priory Primary School  Year 6 won  the North Tyneside Schools Rugby League Festival held at Whitehouse Primary last Thursday, emerging triumphant from the pool for the feeder primary schools for Marden High School. This win was the result of some excellent rugby league on a bitterly cold afternoon, when being out in the open was difficult enough, let alone playing rugby league in it, in shirt & shorts. Another feature of Priory’s play was their determination & ability to keep going right until the very end

For the John Spence Feeder family primary schools, Preston Grange Year 6 emerged the winners from their pool. As well as coping well with the conditions, they played thrilling attacking rugby league at times, & another feature of their game was the exceptional tackling they produced when the occasion demanded it. The two schools a re now due to meet each other in the North Tyneside Winners’ Festival, on Thursday, 17, June, 2010, also at Whitehouse Primary. The winners of that festival represent North Tyneside in the Tyne & Wear Rugby League Winners Festival on Thursday, 15, July, 2010

Anyone interested in playing or being part of rugby league please contact
